"My fears were handled with great kindness and..."

About: St Albans City Hospital

I recently went in for a cataract operation. I was absolutely terrified and arrived at the hospital shaking like a leaf The staff were very kind and understanding and my surgeon was very compassionate and explained exactly what would happen. The anaesthetist came to see me and allayed all my fears by explaining that they would make sure I would not be troubled by what would be going on around me. They were absolutely right and the sedation they gave me was just perfect as although not completely out I was totally relaxed and once in the recovery room was ready t9r a coffee!! Everyone in the department was concerned and caring and the overall experience was not nearly as frightening as it could have been due to their care. I am now not nearly as scared to have my second cataract done. Thank you everyone in Day Surgery. You show that the NHS is still the best.
