My close family member has terminal oesophageal cancer and has been receiving treatment at the WHH.
The consultant is at the Kent and Canterbury and pretty much throughout the last year, forms have forgotten to be signed, have gone missing, appointments mistakenly double booked, urgent calls unanswered etc. It has been very distressing for everyone close to the patient.
Yesterday, the patient turned up for regular chemo at WHH but had very shallow breathing. Your nurses sent the patient round to A&E where they sat for 9 hours. 9 hours.
Completely unacceptable for one of your most vulnerable patient types. He is frail, has very reduced mobility and is on very high dosages of morphine and other painkillers. The patient was finally admitted late last night but no consultant has been to visit and no diagnosis yet - 15 hours later.
How can you call this acceptable treatment? Other hospitals have a fast track system in place for cancer outpatients. They go straight to the front of the queues for blood/x-rays etc. Why keep them in A&E for 10 odd hours?
Devastated by how little your care about our loved ones. The WHH has made what is already and difficult and devastating situation 10 times more so.
