"Fantastic care from A&E"

About: Kettering General Hospital

I attended A&E today with my 4 yr old son who had sustained a deep cut to his chin after slipping getting into the swimming pool at his swimming lessons. The department was extremely busy with a queue at the checking-in desk. The receptionist was efficient and friendly to us both on arrival. We were seen within half an hour by a lovely nurse who was great with my son and very reassuring to me, telling me I'd done the right thing to bring him along. She gave us advice about caring for his steri-strips and discharged us promptly, shaking my son's hand before we left! A perfect balance of compassion, humour, warmth and efficiency. NHS staff are not praised enough. I'm well aware ours was a minor incident and we were one of the quicker cases dealt with today but even so, when it's your child with a horrid cut- crying and bleeding everywhere it's still traumatic and I'm very grateful we had such a positive experience today. Thank you to all involved. You're doing a great job xx

Thank you for your positive feedback. We do strive to see children quickly as we know the department can be a frightening place. I am pleased you found the nurse caring for your son had the perfect balance of compassion, humour, warmth and efficacy. I will ensure your comments are passed onto the nurse directly and shared with the team. Sandra Iwanoff Matron A&E
