" Cleaning procedures"

About: Gloucestershire Royal Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as the patient),

What are we ordinary people supposed to do when we see breaches of hygiene, as happened the other day whilst I was in for examination in a main regional hospital,

I was in the hospital in the outpatients dept for routine ENT tests. I was there for about 2hrs 30mins,

Not once did I see a cleaner in any part of the complex, nobody was seen using the alchol rub which is supplied outside most departments and the medical team were not wearing rubber gloves ,nor was there any obvious sign that the probes to be used etc were sterile.

Who does one complain to about the hygiene breaches and how do we go about it.

We compare this to visiting a good friend in a Spanish private hospital which cooperates with the mainstream spanish health service. Every time we visited there were up to 6 cleaning teams on the entrance floor, several around the lifts and stairs with teams up and down all the wards and ward passages.

The cleaning regime was outstanding. Can you suggest any further constructive action that could be taken
