My parent passed away in this hospital recently, it was the worst end of life care and death I would have wished for someone I loved to bits, such a loney passing. No palliative care team were brought when consultant sought to stop all treatment.. I discovered just before parent died (I was not told by doctors / nurses) parent had developed a new problem which was never an issue before admitance to this dreadful hospiral. Parent's decline was hastened by the way the ward staff failed to notice and deal with relevant matters fast when raised by me as would precipiate parent's decline, although in the firsrt few days it seemed like they were treating parent correctly and trying to deal with the presenting condition, But soon after I saw that things were not good on the ward for for parent. It was difficult to get information. I was never given any information on what the plan was because doctors only worked certain hours on the ward and there was nothing to inform me who was the lead doctor. Parent was cared for in a very deficient way and put at serious risk without speedy redress of matters. Food was never correctly arranged from the time of admittance to this hospital, (no one put the relevant information up on the board or passed it on). These were the many things indicative of poor and undignified care which suggested indifference which I can never forget. The senior nursing staff and doctors lack compassion. Staffing on the acute care ward full of geratric patients was dreadful with insufficient staff. Also the hospital lacks facilities to remove patients from the ward to isolation in a timely manner when there is an outbreak of a contagious life threatening illness. to vulnerable elders. Horrible place compared to other hospitals I know, would never recoomend it if you are seriously ill and old.
