"Congratulations to A&E on Superb Performance!"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

On Wednesday, 4th February I arrived at A & E after a fractured hand had been confirmed by X-Ray at Oldham Integrated Care Centre. Despite the forecasted waiting time being 2 and a half hours, I waited less than 15 minutes before going through to Triage, my history was taken by a wonderfully caring sister? Who had already viewed my X-Rays. She said that I would need to go to the a Fracture Clinic and set up an appointment fir the following day at 2:30pm and proceeded to put a splint on my arm to support my hand. This would have been problematical as we were due to travel down to my daughter's in a Swindon to look after her children as she was due to have an umbilical hernia operation and had to be in hospital for 8am the next day. The said sister said that she would personally contact the Fracture a Clinic to see if there was any possibility if an immediate appointment. Amazingly they agreed to see me! She took me through to the clinic and went to the trouble if bringing my husband through to make sure I didn't miss my turn. Within minutes I went through to see the Consultant who reviewed my X-Ray and said that a cast was the best thing for the fracture. Very professional and efficient. Again, I waited a very minimal amount if time before being called in to have my cast put on. Another lovely nurse and within minutes the cast was all done (in my own colour choice!). Then on to X-Ray to ensure the bone was in the right position for healing. Brilliantly fast staff in X-Ray too and back to the consultant to check. Unfortunately he had had to go on the ward. The nurse who had put my cast on suggested we go for lunch and return at half one. On our return, we waited just a few minutes before being told X-Ray was fine. So I made my 3 weekly appointment for the Fracture a Clinic and we were off! Thank You very much to all the Staff in both A & E and the Fracture Clinic and especially the fantastic Triage Sister who really put herself out to ensure that I received immediate treatment and was do understanding of my situation. The fantastic experience and treatment I received has restored my faith in the NHS System! Well Done The Royal Oldham! With Grateful Thanks Jacinta A Clayton (Mrs)
