"It was good to have their support in keeping my mother cheerful"

About: Poole General Hospital / Accident and emergency South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a relative),

We called the 999 service after my mother fell and hurt her head very badly. There was a lot of blood from the cut, she had also fractured her hip.

Paddy, the paramedic who arrived as a first responder was able to stabilize her and gave her morphine to ease the pain while we waited for the emergency ambulance to arrive. Paddy was extremely good and kept my mother smiling and positive throughout the wait.

When the ambulance crew arrived they were equally amazing, very efficient in what they did. Quickly and carefully getting my mother into the ambulance for further treatment at Poole A&E.

In the A&E department the staff were rushed off their feet but still gave an excellent service. It was also great that the paramedics stayed with my mother until she was admitted onto a ward, even if it was because they needed to get their trolley back! It was good to have their support in keeping my mother cheerful.

My mother had an operation for her fractured hip the following day and is now recovering in hospital.

Thank you to everyone who looked after her.

Dear Vale727

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I hope your mother is recovering well from her operation and is feeling much better now.

It is always rewarding to hear that our staff are continuing to provide excellent care to our patients when they need us most.

I would like to pass your kind comments onto Paddy and the ambulance crew who came to your mothers aid. Would you be able to contact me, laura.martin@swast.nhs.uk or call 01392 453831, at your convenience, with the date and address that the ambulance attended? This would allow me to identify the staff involved and ensure they are recognised for the care they gave.

Thank you again for providing feedback on our service.

Kind regards

Laura
