"Consultant "in a meeting""

About: Countess Of Chester Hospital

My appointment in orthopeadics outpatients was for 14:00 on 27th January 2015. At 14:15 we were told our consultant was in a meeting but that he was "arriving". I was seen at 15:10 and as I left announcements were made to say the clinic was running 1hr15 minutes late. Well I mean - in a meeting? Stuck in theatre, delayed in traffic, sorting the kids might be reasonable excuses. How important are his patients that he can spend extra time in a meeting without sending a competent replacement to take his place? I've known for 2 months when my appointment was and the severe consequences of my missing it. Did nobody put it in the consultant's diary?
