"Extortionate Car Park Charges"

About: Tameside General Hospital

The car parking is outrageously expensive and you, or the company you employ to provide the parking are taking advantage of hospital visitors. I am unable to afford to come and see my Dad which is really bad for his recovery. My Mum's pension barely covers her visits and this is awful. Stop taking advantage and profiting from people who need health care or come to support relatives. I'd be happy to pay but the charges are too high.

Response from Lindsay Stewart, Deputy Director of Nursing, Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust

The parking charges are levied to ensure that Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides car parking facilities that can be accessed by patients and visitors. This includes the provision of high quality security measures, such as CCTV, barriers, good lighting which are in place to ensure that staff and visitors can feel safe when parking on the Hospital site.

The hospital charges are comparable to other Hospitals in the region, however we do offer concessions for visitors who attend Hospital visiting long stay patients.

The Ward Manager can provide you with a pro-forma that will enable you to purchase a temporary permit at a cost of £10 per week. Please feel free to contact the Pals and Complaint office for further advice 0161 922 4466.

’Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed. Want to know more about what’s involved? Please contact John Goodenough, Director of Nursing at
