After being fast tracked by my GP for post menopausal bleeding, I arrived at the gynaecology department feeling very apprehensive. All the staff were very sympathetic and understanding, I really cannot praise them enough. However when I was told that the hysteroscopy and biopsy would be slightly painful just like a period pain I wasn't too worried. It was the worst pain I have ever experienced, worse than being in labour with my two children. No woman should ever have to go through that pain, it's barbaric. We should be told the truth about the severity of the pain and offered local anaesthetic. I believe I have quite a high pain threshold but I would never go through that again without anaesthesia
