"mastectomy and reconstruction"

About: Kettering General Hospital

My name is Tracy Deadman i had a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction on my right breast on the 9th september 2014 sorry for the delay on leaving my feedback as i have had no access to internet. I felt from the start of my diagnosis things went smoothly and effficiantly between myself and the surgeon and his cancer team they also allowed me time slots to fit due to work commitments they explained everything in full to myself and my family at all times which made me feel in control of my situation and the surgery ahead. My surgery... i had the most wonderful surgeon and his team who made me feel totaly at ease when i got to the theatre room, the surgeon's assistant was an absolute star walking down to theatre with me and afterwards when i woke from surgery...fantastic team. After surgery geddington ward... beautiful clean ward lovely caring staff and food was lovely but for me i didnt feel the need to occupy a bed for 4 days as i felt great and went home after 1 day. After care ..Breast care nurses terrific. I have written a diary and taken pictures of my breast surgery which hopefully when i get the chance i can join a group to maybe help others who are unsure of the outcome of surgery.... I am personally very proud of myself as i took my situation on the chin and recovered quickly i dont feel any different when i look in the mirror as i have accepted my bodily change although i am looking forward to my left breast being reduced as when im wearing a bra the shell can be heavy and a bit tiring after a day at work. overall im very happy the physical and emotional side of things is not realy an issue i think the care giving pre op/surgery/after care has helped immensely. I cant thank the surgeon and the breast care team and allthe other departments involved enough for all there help in looking after me.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your experiences on Geddington ward and our Breast Care Team. It is really pleasing to hear that the whole team contributed to your positive experience. I will ensure your comments are passed on to the entire team. Thank you again. Wishing you well with your recovery. Jo Milton Interim Lead Nurse-Surgery
