My brother has received appalling treatment on A. A. U. after admission to A & E. He's disabled and the communication to support him and read his notes from the nursing home where he lives has been sadly lacking. Staff fail to read his passport which clearly gives information to keep him safe and comfortable, it's normal for him to receive NO FOOD what so ever for 3-4 days each admission and his medications are usually missed entirely or given randomly - worrying as most cause painful distressing withdrawal symptoms! Of course he can't ask for food or medications or pain relief and when he is agitated they wonder why! ! I feel sick with worry each time he's admitted, I blame the Management, Nurses are expected to be superhuman - I don't think they don't have enough Nurses on duty to care effectively for patients and they are expected to manage regardless. Some of the nursing staff have been wonderful, bosses give them respect and support - not cutbacks.
