I was admitted into JR ward 6C on Christmas Eve and discharged the following morining. Upon admittance the night shift nurse insisted on confiscating my medicine and locking it away. I am a big girl (67 years old) and know how to take my medicine. Why are they controlling this matter? In 1999 I was admitted into the JR and had the same experience. In 2002 I was admitted into the Churchill and they allowed me to Self medicate. Why is the JR still in the 20th century? Common, move on and allow patients to be self medicating, if they choose to. Also, the doctor at Medical Assessment Unit was willing for me to go home at 3:30 a.m. but preferred me to stay till the morning for assessment. So I agreed. At 6C, the nurse treated me as though I was submitted into prison and said I can't leave until the doctor says so. I felt distressed.
