"Dismayed at how my daughter was treated"

About: Whiston Hospital / Accident and emergency Whiston Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as a relative),

I accompanied my daughter, to the A&E at Whiston Hospital following a severe onset of abdominal pain.

On each of the 3 occasions we presented I felt dismayed in how my daughter was treated. Our first episode, in the early hours, ended with discharge home and medication.

Less than two days later we attended again, my daughter was admitted with gastric problems to a Gynae ward and had a difficult time ending with discharge, more medication following a scan and an x-ray before eventually at my request, a rectal examination. A diagnosis of gastritis + further medication resulted in her symptoms persisting for over a week and on the advice of our GP we returned to Whiston A&E a third time.

Our final experience was distressing, my daughter was told by a doctor that A&E was not a facility to attend when in pain and symptoms were not managed. We were also told A&E is not a fast track for a scope – symptoms still persist, appointment at outpatients is in September.
