"Dr - arrogant, unhelpful, rude & dismissive."
About: Gloucestershire Royal Hospital Gloucestershire Royal Hospital Gloucester GL1 3NN
This is a review on behalf of my 30-something cousin. I am a nurse. She has, for four years or so, been suffering from a long-standing but unknown illness of a neurological nature after suffering from ME as a teenager, which has affected her life to the extent that she is almost wheelchair bound and in constant pain. She was referred initially to a consultant, and presumably since there was no obvious or easy diagnosis to make he decided he need make no effort to dig deeper and simply discharged her. When my cousin was discharged after just one appointment, she requested to be referred back. When she was seen again, his opening comment to her was 'I don't know why you're back. I can't do anything for you.' In another comment, he stated that he can 'only prescribe pills.' He was incredibly dismissive of the symptoms and the effect it's had on my cousins life, offered no support and offered no further tests after an initial neck scan. He did not take ANA or ANCA bloods or any other tests pertinent to the presenting history and symptoms. I'd struggle to explain why he couldn't be bothered to order these tests or at least provide some reassurance or empathy. She has now been seen in London and has a diagnosis as well as a thoughtful and interested consultant. This consultant's attitude, arrogance and rudeness were unacceptable. And a consultant who thinks that pills are his only option? I find that very worrying.
