"Deliberately putting Staff and Patients at Risk"

My son is diagnised with severe Learning Disabilities and Autism and has attended Darlington Hospital A & E Department on several occasions usually as a result of head injury or swallowing foreign objects. Due to his coping abilities he finds waiting stressful and struggles to cope with noisy or busy environments. This is well documented and when ignored in the past he has become violent towards staff and is a risk to the general public, his carers and Hospital personnel. Despite staff being informed of these risks which have been flagged up with The Hospital Learning Disability Nurse my son is routinely being kept waiting for 4 to 5 hours often very late at night. I appreciate that some parients have greater needs and that patients are seen in order of priority. However the Hospital appears to make no assessment of patients mental health needs. It's about time General Hospitals took a more holistic approach and recognise a patient may have a priority due to their disability or risk to themselves or others. I would not wish for my son, any patient or member of staff to be injured but I will hold Darlington Hospital fully responsible if this is a direct result of them choosing to ignore my son's care needs which is happening on a regular basis.
