"My visit to A&E"

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I visited NNUH A&E department as I had fallen and I feared I had fractured my wrist.

I was seen by the triage nurse, who said I needed an x-ray.

Following the x-ray, I was called into a cubicle, and a Nurse asked what I had done and started to manipulate my arm. The nurse asked me to turn my arm in a certain direction and I replied that the triage had already done that and it was very painful. The response was that I had this nurse now and continued to move my arm.

The nurse wheeled their chair over to the desk to look at my x-ray and said to their colleague that they used to have a dog like that, that whinged before you even touched it. I was completely shocked, but then the nurse said I needed to go for another x-ray.

When I came back the nurse said my wrist was fine, and the pain was just due to soft tissue injury, which needed ice & rest. I was then sent home. Two days later I received a phone call to say that my wrist was indeed fractured.

I was not surprised by this, as I have had a fracture previously, and the pain and swelling were the same.

I would like to ensure that in future no other patients are referred to as "whinging dogs"
