At the end of october I was in severe pain with my back and numbness in my hip, I took over the counter medication as I was on holiday. when I came back I went to doctors and they gave me medication which did not work, as I was in such pain I went to the badger clinic where I was told they didnt know what was wrong with me but I was told it could be an underlying cancer, they gave me some more medication and told me to go and see my gp again if it got no better, which I did.
My doctor referred me to the hospital for a mri scan and a ultra sound as she also couldnt be sure what the reason for my pain was.
I was on a range of painkillers some of which made me ill, so my doctor the lowered the dose.
as I was so ill early one morning I rang the badger again and they said ring 999, which I didnt think was needed but I did and the paramedic took me to the outpatients and said for me to go to my doctors when they opened, I rang the doctors and was given diazapam which also did not work.
finally I went back to my doctors and she gave me a letter to go straight to the a/e and wrote on it that I needed and emergency mri scan there and then.
a doctor came to see me and examined me with a pin sticking it in my feet, legs, bottom checked my reflexes and asked me to touch my toes, which I did, he then said that I did not need to be scanned but needed to be referred to a Gynaecologist, so again I was sent home with no explanation of what was wrong with me.
when I told my doctor what had happened she was very surprised, and I am now still in pain with back pain, although it is not as bad but I can not lift my right leg to get in bath or to put clothes on I have to lift it with my hand, and it is very painful but numb to the touch. I cannot sit in the same position for long as the pain shoots up my back, I can no longer stay off work as I cannot afford to so am going back next week on light duties to see of I can cope, I think it is an utter disgrace that there is no one who can diagnose what is wrong with me, after 3 visits to the hospital and to have to wait nearly 2 months for a scan.
I have now received and appointment for ultra sound on in early December and a mri scan later in December.
so it has taken nearly 2 months to get anything done, and I think that if your own doctor refers you to the hospital as emergency to have a scan I think it should be done as the doctor cannot treat you for something that she or he doesnt know what it is they are treating.
I know my letter is long but I wanted you to know all the details, 3 times I have been to hospital and no joy, no-one seems to be bothered, I am not a fuss pot and I do not like being off work sick, I just like to be treated properly by the hospital medical staff, and for them to follow up what general practitioners request to help them do there job.
