"The paramedic so polite & kind, & the doctor"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / NHS 111

(as a relative),

I called 111 initially but could not get through so then called 999 on Friday night. My Mother, 98, was getting sharp pains in her leg which were making her very uncomfortable and was unable to settle and was struggling to sleep.

The paramedic who came was excellent. He gave my mother a thorough examination and assessed the problem as sciatica. As my Mother struggles to take tablets the paramedic, Richard gave her liquid ibuprofen and also arranged for a doctor to do a follow up house call to make sure my Mother was all right.

This did help my Mother who started to settle down after a couple of hours and, by the time the doctor arrived, was sound asleep. We decided not to disturb her but the doctor did want me to call him in the morning after my Mother had woken up to check her condition. I really appreciated that he wanted to make sure everything was OK.

The paramedic was so polite and kind, as was the doctor, I wanted them to know how much I appreciated how they treated my Mother.

Dear Dutch280

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I hope your mother is feeling much better now.

It is always rewarding to hear that our staff are continuing to provide excellent care to our patients when they need us most.

I would like to pass your kind comments onto the Paramedic who came to your aid. Would you be able to contact me, laura.martin@swast.nhs.uk or call 01392 453831, at your convenience, with the date and address that the ambulance attended? This would allow me to identify the staff involved and ensure they are recognised for the care they gave.

Thank you again for providing feedback on our service.

Kind regards

Laura
