I went into A and E with severe central pain in my chest last Sunday, about noon. I was seen right away, had an ECG, and put onto a monitor with immediate pain relief, blood tests and reassurances from staff.
I thought I was going to be allowed home, but after further visits from the doctor was taken onto the MAU ( medical assessment unit ) on Tavy Ward. Here I did have to wait for a few hours to be seen by a doctor again, but everyone was working to full capacity as the ward was very busy. A lovely lady doctor ( Lauren I think ) came to see me about 11. 30 pm and said she wanted to take more blood tests / take a chest x ray and another ECG to be sure all was ok before they let me go.
I had my chest X-ray about 1am and felt very much looked after and cared for. Most of my test results were fine and I was allowed to go home with heart meds, aspirin, etc, as I may have angina. I am now awaiting an angiogram to confirm.
Everyone I met was very very nice, efficient and very caring, I can't speak too highly of the staff on Tavy ward and those I met in A and E. Thank you very much, you are doing such a wonderful job.
