"Maternity Care of my Daughter"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

My daughter was admitted via the pregnancy assessment unit for induction of labour. I along with her husband was one of her birthing partners. The staff on assessment unit and in the labour ward were excellent. They explained everything to my daughter in simple and caring terms. They were professional and gave an air of confidence that was reassuring. In particular in the assessment unit a midwife and on the labour ward another midwife and a student midwife were exceptional as was the Dr who delivered my granddaughter. The post natal ward was adequate with the exception of one midwife who would have done better choosing a career where interpersonal skills were not required. However overall a very positive experience for all the family.

Many thanks for providing us with your valuable feedback following the recent birth of your new Grand-daughter at our hospital. We were all delighted to hear that your daughters labour and birthing experience went so well and that you found the staff on the assessment unit so helpful and caring. We were however, disappointed to hear about the one midwife who you felt had been less caring as regards her interpersonal skills. Please accept our sincere apologies on behalf of this staff member for any upset that may have been caused on this occasion. We will certainly ensure that this feedback is shared with the staff in the relevant areas as I am sure in the main, they will also be very appreciative. However, if you would like us to look further into the matter regarding the midwife we would need more information to enable us to do so. If this is something you would like us to do then please may I ask you to kindly contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on Freephone 0800 783 7691 or via email on dhft.contactpals@nhs.net who will be able to assist you further. However, in the meantime, once again many thanks for taking the time to provide us with your comments and may we also take this opportunity to wish you, your family and of course your new baby grand-daughter our very best wishes for the future. Kind regards The Patient Experience Team, for Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
