"Need for information after Gall Bladder surgery"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy as an emergency patient at the Royal Berks & Battle Hospital, Reading - I was on Kennet Ward.

They looked after me superbly and I did see my consultant briefly before I was discharged but I also found that I was given no aftercare advice and am finding it difficult to find any sensible information. I was not given any documentation at all except for my medication and discharge information for the doctor.

I have just returned to work this week and since coming off of the medication I have found that I have acute diarrhoea which, as you can imagine is very difficult since I have returned to a busy dental practice.

I have always had a relatively low fat diet and so am finding it very hard to take anything else away. Equally, my cholesterol has always been very low. I am also not carrying any excess weight. In fact, there was nothing 'typical' about my diet that related in any way to the gallstone, I believe that I have just been particularly unlucky.

I have found information that suggests I should perhaps, be taking a bile salt compound now with my meals but again I am finding it hard to find information. I am awaiting tests from my GP with reference to the diarrhoea but I really want to regain full health.

I would be really pleased if the Royal Berks & Battle could update themselves and not leave others in this position.
