"Appauling experience on A3"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

.My mother was brought to A&e with acute breathing problems on sunday, the treatment she received was excellent, she sufferes with copd and was very poorly, she was then transferred to ward A3. My mother suffers from dementia and so was obviously very frightened because she didn't understand what was happening to her. After getting her settled myself and her husband went home. On my return at 2.30 on Monday I found my stepdad in total panic because my mum was nowhere to be seen and none of the staff knew where she was. My stepdad arrived at 2pm and it wasn't until I got there that they decided to ask the security guards to check cctv , as you can imagine we were in a complete state of panic. To cut a very long and upsetting story short my mother had got herself dressed, walked out of the ward and decided to walk to the house in Offerton where I grew up, it was only the fact that the lady who now lives there took my mum in and phoned the police at which point myself and my husband went to pick her up. How can this happen, my mother was supposed to be having regular obs done which clearly wasn't happening otherwise she wouldn't have been able to walk out of the ward without being noticed. I am totally disgusted anything could have happened to her, anyone who knows the area will know how busy the roads are and it's a miracle she was found safe. I will be contacting the local paper regarding this matter because the public should know just what a poor ward A3 is, I have seen the reponse the other reviews have been given to other complaints and quite frankly whoever is writing them is just paying lipservice. Totally disgusted
