"Diagnosis of breast cancer"

About: Crawley Hospital / Breast surgery

(as the patient),

Other than the three problems I share below, the treatment I have had and the support given have been absolutely first class.

Prob 1. On arrival, at Crawley hospital for an appointment we could not find a car parking space and although very early for the appointment my husband had to, drop me off and park elsewhere. By the time he came back I had seen the consultant so, he was not able to support me.

Prob 2. I had received the appointment to discuss results of an issue with my LEFT breast. The consultant came into the examination room and did not give his name nor was his name visible. I was expecting a woman doctor. He immediately went to my RIGHT breast and manipulated it without explaining why. I found this quite frightening.

Prob 3. My current address was not replicated across all departments so some letters were sent to a previous address and have never arrived.

I do, repeat, though, that I have otherwise been treated with the utmost care and courtesy, and the medical and surgical care have been impeccable.

Dear Rosie10

I am glad you felt you were treated with care and courtesy but am sorry the consultant failed to introduce himself and did not have a visible name badge.

I would like the team at Crawley to look into the issues you raised so if you would like to get in touch with me and give me some more details I will pass them on to the people involved in your care. I know none of our staff would want a patient to feel frightened by their experience. tasha.gardner@sash.nhs.uk

Unfortunately we do not control the car parking at Crawley Hospital but I can forward your comments onto NHS Property which owns the site.

kind regards

Tasha
