"My 25 day stay when I had Auto Immune Encephelitis"

This hospital truly delivers the best in care. I was admitted on 23/8/13 in to A&E when I had lost the use of my legs and was unable to speak. I spent 1 day in CDU before being moved to ward 411 where doctors tried to determine what had caused this. At this time I had entered in to and Involuntary Spasm State (ISS) which meant I couldn't control my actions. I would try to throw myself out of my bed and spasm uncontrollably and attempt to rip out my IV lines. I was in this state for 8 days. During this time, a doctor advised what I might have had and was immediately sent for an MRI scan which showed a Teratoma growing on my right ovary. This was causing my immune system to attack my brain. I was given plasma exchanges and steroids and was prepped for surgery by a Dr from the nearby Women's Hospital. Following my operation I spent 5 days in intensive care. The staff were always friendly, caring and above all, were there for me as my short term memory wasn't good and they had to repeat things to me constantly. After this I was moved back up to the same ward I was on before my op and the staff were amazed at my swift recovery. I was discharged on 17/09/13 and have had physio and regular follow up outpatient appointments with the Neurology team. I feel without the help, support and dedication of the staff I would not have made such a swift recovery and return to the person I was before my illness. Thank you to all the team, you truly are amazing.
