"Don't fall sick "out of hours""

About: Princess Royal University Hospital (Orpington)

My 3 year old son had a vomiting bug and after calling the out of hours doctor at 6pm Friday night, he told us to go into the A&E at the PRUH. They have a new section where you're assessed I think by a GP and then referred to the children's A&E that you used to go straight to. We finally got to a triage bed by 10pm, not fun when you're child is vomiting blood every few minutes. We then waited until 5am for a doctor to do blood tests as they were on call for A&E, children's ward, any incoming maternity emergencies. At 5am we were ready to be admitted but they had no beds. The closest bed was 3 hospitals away, in Woolwich. Woolwich were great but the PRUH experience was dreadful. Shamefully overstretched with the average treatment time 8 hours. Apparently at night time they only have 2 paediatrians but when they act together on calls, it's basically one. Don't get sick at night!

We are of course extremly concerned to hear this and would like the opportunity to investigate the matter more thoroughly as the care pathway for your son may have begun in the urgent care centre and then transferred across to the Emergency Department but the delay in review is certainly something we would of course wish to investigate. If you would consider contacting us with more details it would be greatly appreciated. The email address is kch-tr.palskent@nhs.net
