"Missed Fracture - but called back"

About: Altrincham General Hospital

Came into the hospital with an extremely sore foot. Was seen and x-rayed within 30 minutes. The nurse on duty said he couldn't see anything wrong and told me to see a podiatrist. The following day the hospital rang me back and said the specialist has looked at my x rays and could I come back to the fracture clinic but couldn't get me an appointment for 10 days. As it turned out my foot was fractured and I was put in plaster for 6 weeks. I don't have a problem with them misdiagnosing, they were extremely nice and helpful and these things happen. The most annoying thing (apart from the plaster) was the 10 day wait for an appointment whilst I walked round with a fractured foot! It hasn't put me off attending Altrincham hospital in the slightest.

Response from Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Thank you for your comments posted on the NHS Choices and Patient Opinion websites regarding the care you received at Altrincham Hospital. It was very kind of you to share your positive feedback about the staff.

We are sorry however to learn that your experience was not as positive as we would hope and that you experienced an unsatisfactory delay whilst waiting for an appointment in the fracture clinic. The fracture clinic appointment waiting times regularly reviewed and additional doctors allocated to reduce the time patients wait to be seen. We are sorry that this was not your experience.

We trust that once you were seen you received the appropriate follow-up treatment and that your fracture has healed as expected.
