I attended A&E in Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary in May this year after having gone over on my ankle. I believe I gave a good explanation of incident and had an x ray.
I was advised that this was soft tissue and ligament damage and given advice re rest, elevation, ice packs etc. I was also advised that this could take some time to heal. No strapping was advised. This injury was not healing, I was experiencing a great deal of pain particularly at night. I paid for 2 sessions with a physio and she recommended speaking with my GP again as she couldn't see any improvement.
My GP organised a further x ray and this determined that I had a broken ankle. They advised that the first x ray had been of my foot and not my ankle because of the history I gave. As a result I now have a "moon boot" to immobilise the ankle but I'm very disappointed that for 3 months I've been walking about on a damaged ankle and concerned about the long term effects. If this had been detected in May and treated accordingly I believe it would have been well on the way to healing now. Disappointed and frustrated by the whole experience and the subsequent impact this has had on me.
