"A&E department"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

I came to A&E last week. Very quickly saw a triage nurse, so I thought all was going well. I had an injury to my wrist. She tried to pull off my engagement ring even though I said it would not come off. It was only when I screamed at her to stop pulling that she did. I was left with a swollen bruised finger for a week following. Went off to x-ray, all good. Told to go to urgent care centre and saw a doctor. The rudest, most unpleasant doctor I've ever met. I had no examination, she spoke to me like a piece of rubbish and even insinuated my symptoms were lies. Told me to take pain killers and escorted me out the door all in the space of five minutes. How incredibly ignorant and disrespectful. Teach your staff some manners, some are not fit to be doctors. The following week I went to St Thomas' Hospital, where I was diagnosed properly and shown respect and received the treatment Queens should have given me.

Thank you for your comment on NHS Choices. We are very sorry about your experience in our Emergency Department. We are concerned that a triage nurse tried to pull your engagement ring off, even though you had said not to remove it. We are sorry you found the doctor you saw to be rude and unpleasant and made you feel like weren’t being taken seriously and that they treated you disrespectfully. This is totally unacceptable. We would like to investigate further and in order to do so need further details. Please contact us via our PALS team on 01708 435 454 or email PALS@bhrhospitals.nhs.uk so we are able to investigate this for you. Yours sincerely, Flo Panel-Coates, Chief Nurse and Stephen Burgess, Medical Director
