"Superb hospital"

About: William Harvey Hospital

We were dismayed to read in the local paper that the William Harvey Hospital has been put under "special measures". We only moved to the Ashford area in December last year, but my wife and I have had to make use of various departments of the hospital in recent months. We have nothing but praise for the Accident and Emergency Department, the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department, and the Physiotherapy Department. Sadly, there are too many "professional complainers" around these days, and people will too readily levy criticism: too rarely give praise. Even the NHS website has a page for Complaints, none for Praise or Compliments. If you would like specific instances and examples of the exemplary service we have received at William Harvey, we will be happy to provide detail, but the abovementioned departments are beyond reproach in our opinions and the NHS should be proud to have such shining examples of excellence and service. We are very pleased to have moved to an area with such an exemplary hospital. You may use this letter in any publicity you wish, but we would appreciate advance warning if you do. Regards Jeremy and Margaret Reid

Response from Julie Pearce, Chief Nurse + Director of Quality + Operations, East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust

Dear Mr and Mrs Reid, thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with such encouraging feedback, I know our staff will really appreciate it. It has been a very difficult time for us, and staff are a little shell shocked by the lack of balance within the inspection report. We are really focussing them on the fantastic care they provide every single day and keeping them focused on the future.

Your feedback will help them feel good about themselves. I do hope you both remain well and if you need our services that we continue to care for you well.
