"basal cell carcinoma mohs surgery"

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital / Dermatology

(as the patient),

I was referred by my GP over two yrs ago for a spot on my nose. Immediately on examination in dermatology it was diagnosed as a basal cell carcinoma. I was really upset since as I didnt know what would have to happen. I was then referrd onto the MOHS team as I was told it would have better outcomes. The surgery was carried out by Dr. Tan and a specialist nurse, they were really great. Whilst doing the surgery I had to have most of my face covered which was a bit claustraphobic. I must admit the local anaesthetic ws painful but they were very good and reassuring. Dr. Tan was operating and she was talking to the nurse about everyday things which I was glad about because I was focussing on their conversation and it helped me not to panic. Also because they were just chatting and not talking about the tumour they were removing and making a big thing of that, it helped destress me as the last thing I wanted to know about was the actual surgery.
