About: Heartlands Hospital

The ground floor toilets of the maternity unit smelt, there were only 2 female toilets and 1 wouldn't flush, there was no toilet paper, no check sheet for whoever cleaned it, no sign to say where to report if toilets not up to standard, no soap, used tissue all over the floor and excrement down and around the toilet that wouldn't flush. I reported it on Aspen ward and was told the contractors cleaned those toilets. The antenatal unit is operating there and people who are visiting are using them. My immediate thoughts were appalling, disgusting impression. My husband told me there was only 1 men's toilet and that was in a similar state. There was a small bin in the waiting area overflowing and the weather was very hot. My grandson was in the neonatal unit but anybody using those toilets and then visiting would carry infection someone needs to take urgent action. We visited 3 days and at no time were they much different. Check sheets and someone needs to go around if bins are overflowing get it emptied, if toilets filthy get them cleaned. It's not hard Burton Hospital is brilliant at precisely this. We came from Derbyshire not a good impression to share with others. The ward and staff were brilliant, what a shame.
