"Appalling treatment when giving birth"

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

Went to Calderdale labour ward to be induced.

First day ok, waters broke in nightmare pressed buzzer an hour later nobody came, walked the wards in search of someone, found a lady at reception Desk, said excuse me my water broke. "That's nice", she replied and carried on typing.

Went back to room an hour later midwife came, showed her mess from waters, she huffed and threw a sanitary towel at me and left. I asked her for another later on and she said you only get one, and I should have brought my own. Left in mess for a couple of hours, day shift came on, moved to single room.

Showed midwife my waters were green/brown (indicating baby has pooed inside), not concerned.

After a full day and night on induction drip I was given an emergency cesarean due to a failure to progress. The induction procedure was horrible although I am told this is normal.

After the cesarean at 2. 30am I was taken to a four person ward, I had had a. Hours sleep in 2, 5 days. The midwife insisted my partner go home. I was left with my baby in my arms for 4 hours whilst completely numb from waist down and more tired than I have ever been in my life. I kept pressing the buzzer for someone to come and out baby in the cot but no one did. To keep awake I had to hold my phone above my face so that when I dropped off it hit and woke me. I was scared of dropping baby on floor.

Eventually after midwife came and put baby in cot I slept for an hour, I awoke to a nurse/midwife and manager arguing outside our room about who was going to look after us, apparently too many caesareans had been carried out for recovery beds,

I was left a few more hours then an orderly came and got me out of bed for a shower, she said I will change your bed and watch baby, returned from shower orderly nowhere to be seen and baby on own, she never came back.

Next day cannula fell out of hand as it had not been removed quick enough, the skin had dropped off, showed midwife she said that's good, saved me a job.

After 5 days in hospital I left having had around 3 hours sleep. I developed PTSD as a result which left me with severest anxiety and in need of counselling. Calderdale royal hospital ruined the first few months of time with my baby.
