I will never recommend the a & E department of this hospital to anyone. I have literally just collected my mum from WH A & E Dept. I called a paramedic last night as she became quite unwell with vomiting and a headache. She has had a UTI since 26th June 2014 and on two occasions WH sent her home before she was well. Anyway her BP was 195 over 90 and every time she lay down she felt ill and when she sat up she felt slightly better. Because of her BP and because she has had this UTI for so long it was decided that she should go to hospital where, the paramedic told me, "they will put her on a drip, get some IV antibiotics into her and really knock this infection on the head once and for all". What a joke! We were up all night, I called a paramedic at 9.45, then waited until 2.45am for the ambulance so none of us had any sleep last night. I received a telephone call at 5.45 this morning from the A & E Dept. I think it was the sister I spoke to. She asked me to come and pick mum up. I said what about her BP and I was told she had been given a tablet for that. I asked what about her infection but received no answer. She is on antibiotics from the GP but so far they have not worked and she has had this infection too long already. I explained that we had been up all night and I had only had a couple of hours sleep and was not fit to drive anywhere. I asked if she could possibly be sent home by ambulance and I was told no but they would put her in a taxi and I could pay the driver when he got here! Can you believe it? Putting a frail, defenceless, unwell, elderly lady of 89 in a taxi! I couldn't believe my ears. I wanted them to wait until later in the morning when I had had some sleep but I was told "do you want your mother home or not"? So I hung up and went and fetched her. When I got there, no-one bothered to talk to me about her so I don't know what's happening with her BP or what the problem was. The sister in A & E told my mum that she should never have been admitted to hospital as there was nothing medically wrong with her! I would have thought that if there was nothing wrong, the paramedic would not have called an ambulance. He thought the BP was definitely wrong. I don't know who these sisters think they are, they are not doctors and they need to learn to speak to people properly. I can't believe they couldn't keep mum for a few hours until I could fetch her. As usual, they just want to get rid of people as quickly as possible. I can't believe she was sent home so quickly. I am disgusted. I don't even know if she had seen a doctor or what had been said. I know nothing. Furthermore, I had to stop the car before we got out of Warwick high street because she was being sick and I had to stop again before we got home. Disgusting! If anyone would like to apologise for this disgusting affair, that would be something at least.
