"Person I spoke to was intelligent"

About: NHS 111

(as the patient),

I was tripped up by a child on a scooter at Waterloo Station on Friday. I could not get back up; the station staff called an ambulance to get me checked over at the St Thomas’ hospital.

I was discharged and sent home with strong painkillers in a car arranged by the hospital. I only realized how strong these painkillers were when I woke up to find I had lost an entire day. They knocked me out completely!

I called 111, my own GP was not available, and I was concerned about the strength of the tablets and also the pain in my pelvis. What I particularly liked about the 111 service was that the girl I spoke to on the phone was intelligent. She knew what she was doing, asking the relevant questions and not just following a list – she made it clear she was skipping the questions that were not appropriate

A doctor was sent round to see me, he was able to confirm there was no fracture but torn muscles / ligaments and bad bruising. He also adjusted my painkillers so that I would be comfortable but not knocked out. My own GP was able to come and see me on Monday when the surgery opened.
