I visited today to have an endoscopy/colonoscopy exam carried out.
During my preparation for the procedure a nurse took me to one of the private rooms to take my blood pressure, go over forms, and insert a needle. During this I began to feel faint, but during this the nurse did all she could to keep checking on me and trying to reassure me. Unfortunately I proceeded to have full on faint, passing out completely. When I came too, several of the nursing team where right there on, speaking to me and reassuring me, cooling me down, checking my pulse, and just taking every measure to ensure I was ok. This immediately filled me with complete trust and confidence in them, they continued to stay with me until they were happy that I had recovered, as well as calling a doctor to also check on me. Once I had recovered sufficiently I was moved via a trolley to a ward in readiness for the actual colonoscopy exam. My transfer was handled professionally and with genuine compassion as the original nurses came back to check on me which I appreciated.
The exam was also carried out with sensitivity and in a very professional manner, the surgeon and nurses putting me immediately at ease. After this I was given ample time to recover with a welcoming drink and sandwich. Throughout my short stay, all the staff, from the main receptionist, the nurse that volunteered to guide us from reception towards the relevant department, all the departments nurses, and surgeons, where truly fantastic. I can't thank or praise them enough for the outstanding care they provided.
