My husband Malcolm was advised by the doctor on 25/2/14 that he needed triple heart bypass surgery which he would have in six to eight weeks (early April). He had his pre op assessment on 28/4/14 and I expected him to be admitted for surgery within a couple of weeks from that date. His health problems are complicated, re chronic pancreatitis, kidneys do not function fully so post surgery he will need dyalisis, and also liver not fully functioning. It is now 12 weeks since he had the pre op assessment and still no date for surgery despite phoning the doctor's secretary and our GP writing to consultant. I would expect that another up to date assessment would now be needed after three months wait. My husband's health is getting worse, (poor blood flow must have an impact on other organs which in his case are not 100% anyway) so can someone tell me how much longer is he going to wait for surgery and at what point does treatment become urgent? It seems to me that there is no urgency in the NHS these days!
"Why are we waiting?"
