"She kept me calm and reassured me"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Southern General Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

Well I called 999 as I was in labour and could see my son's head crowning. I was so scared. I was at home alone and this was my first pregnancy. So the woman answered the call and all I can say is she was amazing. She kept me calm and reassured me that the ambulance was on it way. So by the time the ambulance had turned up my son was born. I would really like to speak to this person who helped me. I can't remember her name. All I can remember is she was a woman.

Dear carolinee,

Thank you very much for getting in touch with us through Patient Opinion - we really appreciate when patients contact us to let us know about their experience. It allows us to gain invaluable feedback on the services we deliver.

It is great to hear that you received outstanding assistance from our Ambulance Control Centre. The Call Taker will really appreciate your feedback and we will certainly let them know. If you could email me at claire.smillie@nhs.net and provide me with some more information (address the Paramedics attended and the date and time of the call) then I will speak to the staff member involved.

Lastly, I do hope that you and your son are doing well.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Wishes,

Claire Smillie
