What I liked
Initial contact with staff was excellent
What could be improved
I have been waiting since September 2007 (initial consultation with proffesor) for a date for a partial pancreas removal. Last Friday I was telephoned and told to be in on Sunday. As a young Mum this was short notice and the admission date was changed 01 October 2008 (Wednesday) with operation scheduled for Thursday 2nd October 2008. I was awoken at 5:30am to be prepped for surgery, and got as far as having pre-op sedative injections. It was left to the ward doctor to then tell me the operation had been cancelled, and I could go home!!! Apparently there was no post op bed available (this should have been planned when they phoned and asked me to come into hospital!!) I was promised a phone call on the Thursday night with a new date and my medications, and as of todays date 03 October 2008 (friday) still no contact. Govt targets require ops to be performed within 6 months of consultation. I waited 13 months only for the op to be cancelled. All plans regarding post op help at home by family and friends have to be cancelled. My mother from South Africa has had to cancel holidays she booked from work to be with me. I am fuming
Anything else?
Proffessors secrataries cannot be reached to find out what happens now.
