"The paramedics were fantastic"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as the patient),

The paramedics who came to attend to my husband when he had a small stroke – they were fantastic.

I called 999 as I felt my husband needed urgent care having suffered a temporary loss of sight. Paul, who has treated my husband previously, recognized us immediately and this was reassuring for my husband. Because he has Alzheimer’s disease my husband was very reluctant to go into hospital preferring the familiarity of his own home. The paramedics stayed with him for a long time to make absolutely sure he was OK, liaising with the hospital to ensure they could carry out all the necessary checks at home.

However, a doctor did come and check my husband after the paramedics had left. Dr Ferguson felt that my husband should be taken to hospital and called for an ambulance. By co-incidence it was the same paramedics again, they were very apologetic that my husband needed to be taken to hospital. Arrangements were made for him to be taken to Yeovil as he has been there before and he would be more comfortable there.

Dear Eadge466

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I hope your husband is recovering well.

It is always rewarding to hear that our staff are continuing to provide excellent care to our patients when they need us most.

I would like to pass your kind comments onto the crew who came to your and your husbands aid. Would you be able to contact me, laura.martin@swast.nhs.uk or call 01392 453831, at your convenience, with the date and location that the ambulance attended? This would allow me to identify both crew members and ensure they recieve your thanks.

Thank you again for providing feedback on our service.

Kind regards

Laura
