"Neurology follow up?"

About: Neurosciences (DCN) / Neurology St John's Hospital / Neurology

(as the patient),

In February my 4 days of care in the Western General's neurology HDU and then my week in the normal neurology ward was excellent....no complaints at all! ! I'd already spent 3 days in Intensive Care at another hospital with an encephalopathy.

However when we got home we discovered through my discharge letter that I'd had two cortical infarcts, nobody had told myself or my family about this! !

So last week I finally see my consultant for the 1st time since before I left hospital in February and my mum asks why we weren't told of had these 2 strokes, the consultant said that they'd just read about them in my discharge letter? ! ? !

However apparently the consultant is psychic as without having seen my new scan they predicted that everything would be fine and the infarcts would be tiny. We were promised a letter explaining my new scan would arrive by tuesday since my mum was returning home abroad and wanted as much first hand knowledge as possible.

No letter arrived so I phoned and got the consultant's secretary who given the situation read relevant parts of the letter to me..... The encephalopathy is gradually reducing, which is great, however ive to have another brain MRI and be followed up at clinic at the western because they're more frequent than at my home hospital and there are unexplained anomalies on my most recent scan
