NHS rated the top health service in the world - I agree ! Having just had a nail inserted in my leg at HRI (Ward 20), I can only express my admiration and respect for the care provided. Whilst it seems the preoccupation of some of the media and certain politicians to constantly denigrate the NHS, my recent experience at HRI makes me think that an ordinary person wouldn't get better care anywhere else in the world. All the staff were caring and efficient, and nothing was too much trouble. Patients were treated with respect, but there was also a sense of fun which is important in the days recovering from an operation. The ward was clean and light and for me airy as I was lucky to have a bed by the window. The much maligned food was perfectly adequate and hot - I wasn't expecting Masterchef anyway. My only gripe was the bedside entertainment which was expensive and unreliable - no doubt supplied by a private 'partner'. It's about time we woke up to the threats to our wonderful NHS from the push to sell it off to huge private corporations, who will be looking at cost cutting to boost profit. Because the only realistic way to cut costs is to either reduce the number of staff or their levels of pay, and they do not deserve that considering the wonderful level of care they provide.
