"Devastated by my mum's care at Castle Hill"

About: Castle Hill Hospital

(as a relative),

My mum had the misfortune of spending nearly 7 weeks on ward 15. There seemed to be a lack of basic care and compassion. This included exhausted relatives chasing nurses for vital pain relief medication.

One nurse ignored repeated requests for mum's top up injection. I asking this said nurse to discuss matter, but the nurse promptly disappeared at the end of shift, with no explanation as to why the nurse had failed to attend to mum.

My mum was left waiting hours for on call doctors to replace her cannula, which was needed to administer vital meds.

My mum also had sleep deprivation, as a result of the noise from nurses station, which especially on a weekend was diabolical.

In our experience, weekends and bank holidays are the worst. Bank nurses flittering about like ghosts, they were there, but you never saw them.

Our catalogue of complaints will be forwarded to the hospital and the said nurses named. The longer you stayed the more problems you witnessed.

We refused to leave her to this neglect, and felt we were left with no option but to take her home to die, so that she received the care she deserved in her final weeks. We are devastated a dying woman can be treated in this manner in this day and age.
