"Reading the wrong notes"

About: Tameside General Hospital / General surgery

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

This story has been posted by Healthwatch Tameside on behalf of a member of the public who asked not to have their name published. They said…

This lady had gall bladder removed last year. Recovery took a long time and problems while post-op with wound drainage. Attended out-patient clinic. Doctor read notes and looked at charts and x-rays. Sent her for more tests then told her she would have to have her gall bladder removed. Eventually realised he was reading the wrong notes, but she needed a lot of reassurance that the correct operation had in fact taken place. She has lost faith in the hospital now and wouldn’t choose to go back there.

’Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed.
