"Maternity services outstanding"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital

What I found at SM was that they were also tremendously compassionate, kind and considerate. My obstetrician was also on a different league. I had a forceps delivery but no episiotomy, no tearing, and only one stitch in a burst blood vessel. Had a bit of a concern with my low heart rate afterwards but no risks were taken so I spent the night under observation in one of the HDU rooms. I had a team of midwives and nurses around me at all times who, despite their exceptional knowledge and skill level didn't think twice about running around after my every need with a smile. Whoever oversees the recruitment amongst the maternity team obviously insists on people who share an ethos of caring as well as medical and technical expertise.
