"Dignity no mater what condition"
About: Bassetlaw Hospital Bassetlaw Hospital Worksop S81 0BD
My mother in law was taken into A&E following a fall in the care home she sadly has dementia they took blood test etc the went of for testing my mother in law laid on the trolley dozing and waking up . The Lady Doctor came into the cubicle with out any warning said have you signed a non resuscitation form as you seriously need to think about it at that my wife of course was shocked and in tears she still carried on to say how they break the ribs to resuscitate and there no saying if or how long she would survive. The worst thing about this she never once looked to see if the mother in law was awake or just got her eyes shut or even open, apart from the distress she caused my wife not one piece of dignity was shown to her mum . Who knows what bits of information a patient with dementia takes in for years she had not said my name then out of the blue she called me by my name like all patients deserve dignity That is not the place or the time to discuss the Dr should have said look your mums ok while we are waiting the results can we have a little chat together and took us in a private room it would and could be handled better totally disgusting to say the least . A&E and certain Sister needs to know how treat and to handle patients with dementia as her attitude and the Drs is a disgrace to the profession they need to change as one day they will grow old and they too will expect and want dignity nobody knows what will happen tomorrow to themselves. This should not happen to any infirm or elderly patient if it happens again I will sit down again with the Chief Executive as elderly patients like all deserve respect and Dignity one day we will all be elderly. That one reason all C wards where abolished due to the disgraceful complaints I stood up several years ago over treatment or I should say the lack of treatment But I also stood up and said in 20 years the way elderly where been treated had not changed standards are slipping again then do you need another major shake up before you listen again or are we going to have it as normal nursing standards as it should be
