My mother spent a day in the Leverhulme day ward very recently. Her referral to the ward was fast-tracked because of her symptoms. When we got there we explained that although she has some conversational English, her understanding of medical terminology etc is very poor and so we asked if I could stay with her to translate. This posed no problem and I was able to stay with her throughout the day to interpret. Staff treated my mum with a high degree of dignity and respect throughout the day. Everything was explained to her, she got her test results on the same day and a treatment plan was established before she left the hospital. We arrived at Clatterbridge at 9am and my mother had had nothing to eat for breakfast. I asked a nurse if I could run to the cafeteria to bring her a sandwich and was told to wait a few minutes before doing anything. Well, in 10 minutes a tray with toast, butter, jam and tea had been brought to her bed. I know that's not a medical intervention per se, but it highlights how staff treat patients with compassion and respect at all times.
