"Anxious about our premature baby with one kidney..."
About: Broomfield Hospital Broomfield Hospital Chelmsford CM1 7ET
Very hard to review the whole place as a whole.... The reception team in the Childrens ward are amazing and friendly and there is so much going for this hospital. But Our Doctor on the other hand is extremely cold, comes across as arrogant and brushes up mistakes under the carpet. We were told she had one kidney when she was born and a host of other things that were wrong, We did not get referred to Great Ormond Street when we should have so we ended up waiting and worrying about the list of things that we were told were wrong with our little baby girl. We got told that we got lost in the system. Every time we have seen a doctor at Great Ormond Street they said "Strange you did not come to us early". Then we were told that our daughter might have to have a colostomy bag because she has waited so long for this operation. We had no real contact from our doctor and was told that if we don't hear from him to ring his office to see why we don't have an appointment. I understand that the NHS is very busy but we don't know about waiting times for operations and check-ups so we would hope that the doctor would be on top of that. Then we had the fortune to accidentally going to the wrong hospital for an appointment, there we met a different doctor who was friendly and informative. Just wish he had of been our doctor. We were told that she had two kidneys. No one ever told us there was a chance that she could have two. So that was a blessing. My wife got upset seeing the Doctor today and it is the final straw. He called me anxious and then my wife explained it is because we got lost in the system and have had no one explaining anything. Then he said "Did I say anything was going to be bad". No you did'nt, but What you did say was - "Our daughter has one Kidney - She has a problem with her spine and her bottom is in the wrong place" and then we got left for three months not knowing anything apart from what we managed to find on the Internet (Which is not a pleasant way to sort out a diagnosis). So I will make sure that we get a different Doctor, Hopefully the one we accidentally saw. If your child is born with V.A.T.E.R.Y.L Syndrome at this hospital you are going to have to go on Facebook and the Internet to find out everything you can and talk to people in support groups to get information and get on the doctors back to constantly make sure you have not been lost in the system. But I must stress there are some really friendly and competent people at this hospital.
