I had the initial consultation in January of this year and was scheduled for my operation on the 28th March. I received a call the day before My Hernia operation informing me that the Pre-Admission checks had found that I had a minor skin irritation. The operation was cancelled and I was prescribed a five day course of medication and asked to attend for further checks a week later. One week after the check up I had not heard anything so I rang the general enquiries and was then transferred to the admission desk. I explained that I had not received the results of the follow up checks and needed to know when my operation would be rescheduled. I was told that someone would eventually contact me. I stated that this was not acceptable as the situation was having an adverse affect on my work prospects and asked if there was a way for me to contact the consultant directly. I was informed that this was not possible and that the consultant does not have a regular slot at this hospital. I asked if someone could contact the consultant on my behalf and get him to contact me. I was made to feel that I was asking for the earth by the receptionist who reluctantly said she would ask one of her colleagues to contact the consultant but I was left feeling not confident that this would happen. To date I have not received any further contact from either the consultant or the hospital. I am very disappointed with this and think it is an unacceptable situation.
