"My husband had surgery for rectal ..."

About: Airedale General Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My husband had surgery for rectal cancer. Unfortunately, within days the resection failed and he was re-admitted as an emergency for further major surgery. At all times staff were reassuring and kept us informed of his treatment and progress. In the emergency situation they were open about his condiiton but instilled us with confidence as to how they woudl deal with that. In all he spent almost 4 weeks and was nursed in 4 different wards. This cross-section of nursing, medical and ancillary care is the basis of my comments. The specialist nurse who visited us in our home also exmplified the same high standards

What could be improved

A little more personal space for belongings would be welcome, especially for longer stay patients. A general lounge for visitors from all wards to share given that many of us travel quite some distance and are unable to return home between afternoon and evening visiting

Anything else?

we are indeed fortunate to have such a good hospital serving a rural area such as Wharefdale. I would have every confidence in any treatment I needed there.
